Purpose of the internship programme
Internships for graduate students, professionals, workers, volunteers are available at our office round the year. Our internships/volunteer opportunities are intended to:
- increase the intern’s understanding of current human rights issues at local level, provide hands on training and give them an insight into the work of grass roots human rights organizations in particular; and
- provide HSR-Cmr and the United Nations Human Rights mechanisms with the assistance and contribution of outstanding young future human rights defenders
The relationship between the Organization and the intern is one of mutual benefit. Interns are assigned to a particular project according to the needs of the intern and their own areas of interest. They are involved, inter alia, in: researching human rights issues, drafting analytical papers and reports, providing substantive and technical servicing of meetings, backstopping fact-finding and technical cooperation activities as well as field operations and supporting other HSR-Cmr activities, depending on the exigencies of the Office and the internship. As part of the internship programme, HSR-Cmr endeavours to brief interns through a series of information sessions on human rights issues conducted by staff of the Office.
Qualifications:
Internship Fee: Interns are responsible for their insurance and visa applications. HSR-Cmr facilitates visa procedure with a confirmation or visa letter to ease the application process. Internship fees are paid at least one month prior to arrival due to the necessary immediate logistical arrangements, accomodation, and transportation of the intern from the Douala International airport to Buea. We encourage internships that last three months or longer so that interns have enough time to adjust to Buea and to understand the work and context of HSR-Cmr and the project he/she is working on since the Project requires consistency and continuous work. |
